The Fullness of Christ

By: Xh. Cher Cha Yang

Colossians 1:19-20, ESV

[19] For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, [20] and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Our hearts reflect on Christ’s resurrection as we prepare for Easter Sunday. His resurrection demonstrated God’s agape (sacrificial) love and Christ’s victory over death. However, we seldom see Christ’s fullness. For in Him, God was pleased, and through Him, all things were reconciled, both visible and invisible. Peace was made possible through the blood of Christ on the cross. His death on the cross was the propitiation for our sins. That is why Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 2:2, “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” This should be our reason to know Christ and His fullness.

The word fullness means to be mature in Jesus. If we were to truly remember Him, we are to desire to grow in Him and live out our faith genuinely. Jesus told his disciples, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit, apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).

Let us abide in Christ. Let us grow in Him. Let us be full in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, this Easter Sunday.

Reflections

1. How has your faith grown in Christ since you became a believer?

2. What are you doing to mature yourself in Christ for 2024?

Prayer

Our Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your gracious love toward us and for what Jesus has done to reconcile us to You. We pray that you will continue to help us grow in the fullness of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
