Noah, A Father Who Walked with God

By Xh. Vam Foung Vang

Genesis 7:7

7 The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation.”

After Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden, the world descended into wickedness. In Genesis 6, God experienced sorrow for His creation and resolved to destroy the earth through a flood. However, He found favor in one individual, Noah. As stated in Genesis 6:9, “Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.”

When the world was rebelling against God and was utterly wicked, God flooded His creation. During this time, Noah obeyed God and led his family to the Ark.

In 2025, the streets of America are filled with violence. Since 2016, through the COVID-19 pandemic and up to the present day, the streets have not fully recovered due to various issues.

How do we earn favor in God’s eyes? What does it truly mean to be obedient to Him? Is it even possible for anyone to be righteous in today’s generation? These are indeed challenging standards to uphold, especially as a man and a father, when sin is as easily accessible as a website.

For Noah, while the world around him indulged in sin and mocked his efforts to build the Ark, he remained steadfast in obeying God’s commands. Throughout Genesis chapters 6-9, Noah faithfully followed God’s instructions and guided his family, even as others lived as if tomorrow would always mirror today. A notable aspect of Noah’s character is that he walked with God.

As fathers, we may not be confronted with apocalyptic events, but we can certainly face challenges such as job loss or divorce. If we walk with God as Noah did, we will be deemed righteous and find refuge in Him when life’s turmoil surrounds us. By walking with God, we can ensure our family’s safety in His embrace.

Sin will never change because humans will never change. However, we must walk with God, as Noah did, to navigate through this flood of sin, aiming to save our family and our community.

Prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, help us to walk faithfully with You and keep our family safe. Amen.

Reflection:

What is one thing we can do daily in walking with God?
