Inheritance Kept in Heaven
By Xh. Vam Foung Vang
1 Peter 1:3-4
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.”
Easter Sunday was long awaited and has passed. The fellowship, BBQ, and egg hunt are always great every year. This year my daughter, as the Sunday School director, gave out prizes for the winning eggs. The little kids were excited to gather all the colorful plastic eggs with candy and the lucky few also had a piece of paper in the egg, with a number for a gift. All the little kids came up to exchange their pieces of paper for a chocolate rabbit, plushy toy, gift basket, or car toys etc… They were so elated opening the eggs and finding candy, but their joy saw no end when they were given another bigger gift that the eggs could not contain.
We, believers have a greater joy; it is finding a new life in Christ when we accepted him as our Lord and Savior. God’s mercy was actualized in Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and resurrection on Easter (v.3). This act of mercy gave us a new life and a new song in Christ, which can be lived and enjoyed now. Many have found freedom from sins, such as addiction, depression and hate, and healing and more. Verse 4 tells us that God’s mercy doesn’t end there but we have a greater inheritance waiting for us in heaven. It is an imperishable and undefiled inheritance of eternal life with our Father in heaven.
Like the little children, in their delight of the egg, they are surprised to find another greater gift waiting for them at the prize table. Many of us know that this life is just a fleeting moment like the memories we had of last weekend at church or the park celebrating Easter, but we know that our eternal inheritance in Christ will be completed when we see Him again in heaven.
Easter Sunday is a reminder of our true gift and one day we will meet those who have gone first, in front of our Lord Savior Jesus Christ. We live and enjoy this gift God has given us call a New Life, but we have a hope and joy knowing we have another greater gift in heaven.
Reflection:
I am grateful for this gift that God has chosen to give me. His love for me prepared a way for me to see Him one day.
Question:
Have you shared the reason for Easter with your children? Have you shared Christ’s love and forgiveness with your buddies at the park while BBQ?
Prayer:
Thank you, Father, for blessing us while we were in our sin. You gave us your Son and promised that whoever believes will have Eternal life. I ask you to keep us in your arms until we see you, Lord. Amen.
